Similar to the recent storm hit the north-west the prior day, City swept Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 triumph for their manager's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their leadership claims as they reinforced their place at the league summit.

Successive Setbacks for Manchester United

This scoreline represented consecutive league losses for Skinner's side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

The Red Devils' ability to balance domestic and continental soccer with a thin roster has been a widely debated issue since they qualified for the UCL. Looking at the calendar, it always seemed this was the period that would fully examine this ability. Sadly for the visitors, they appeared weary from start to finish, the landmark win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had attempted to freshen things up with a a few alterations. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Leah Galton all brought vigor, although the omission of the on-form Malard to the substitutes caused surprise.

The hosts, in contrast, have no such loading concerns. Jeglertz made a single alteration from their most recent win over Everton with Hemp making her initial starting appearance since recovering from a physical setback.

Commanding Opening Period

The hosts, on the other hand, could have increased their lead when a delightful Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it mattered little to the winning team. Having failed to overcome any team who placed above them in the prior term, City's side now have wins against Arsenal and United to put them in a favorable position after nine games.
